The sixth annual Campus Academic Strategies and Technology conference will take place Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., in the University Capitol Centre (UCC) Conference Center (UCC-2520). Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
"Tomorrowland: Is the Future Now?” will focus on the classroom of the future with a keynote address by Dr. Jonathan Tomkin, associate director of the School of Earth, Society, and Environment at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Tomkin, who has taught 37,000 students in a massive open online course (MOOC), will speak about how our expectations for the future are influencing how we approach pedagogy today.
The afternoon event will offer an array of 20-minute breakout sessions on innovative teaching strategies, including MOOCs, e-texts and flipped classes, virtual cyber anatomy, and crowd-sourcing to digitize historical documents .
Each year, the 4CAST conference offers University of Iowa faculty and instructional staff an opportunity to discuss how to purposefully integrate technology into their courses. 4CAST '13 is jointly sponsored by ITS, the Center for Teaching, the University of Iowa Libraries and instructional technology partners across campus.
