Presentation by studio researchers Jon Winet and Jen Shook, with a cameo by ICRU fellow Ari Craven

Researchers from the Digital Studio for Public Arts & Humanities will present and discuss projects that highlight undergraduate collaborative multimedia research and publishing.


Jon Winet is a New Media artist and researcher. He is the inaugural director of the University of Iowa Digital Studio for Public Arts & Humanities. He works on a range of project, including City of Lit, a mobile web app championing Iowa City’s rich literary history and culture; and AIDS Quit Touch. He is a Professor in the Media | Social Practice | Design Area Intermedia Program in the School of Art & Art History, as well as a member of the faculty of International Programs and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Informatics.

Jennifer Shook is a doctoral candidate in English, a 2012 Obermann Graduate Fellow, and Twitter Correspondent for @TheStudio_UI. She holds interdisciplinary degrees from Swarthmore College and the University of Chicago, and has taught at DePaul University, Columbia College, and the Newberry Library. As a dramaturg and director in Chicago, she founded Caffeine Theatre -a company that mines the poetic tradition to explore social questions. She also traveled the Midwest giving talks on early American performance and Lincoln in popular culture as a Road Scholar for the Illinois Humanities Council. Her other passions include Native American politics, memory, memorial, cognition, dance, and puppets.

Ari Craven is a Junior at the University of Iowa studying Theatre & Art with foci in Acting and Graphic Design. As a past graduate and Peer Mentor of the Studio’s Passport Project, he now works as a graphic design ICRU (Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates) Fellow for The Studio. He is actively involved in UI Theatre performances and serves as the president for the University Theatre’s Student Representatives. Additionally Ari works outside the fine arts as an OnIowa! Captain and is the Social Media Design Chair for Delta Upsilon Fraternity here on campus.
