Presentation by Matt Gilchrist, Rhetoric and IDEAL; Tom Keegan, University Libraries & IDEAL; and Elise Kerns, English
Through Iowa Digital Engagement and Learning (IDEAL), Rhetoric students have participated in the University of Iowa Libraries’ crowdsourcing transcription initiative, DIY History. We will explain how IDEAL worked with the Libraries to craft the assignment and share students’ assessments of their investment in project-based, inquiry-driven assignments. We highlight the merits of digital, publicly-facing course projects.
Matt Gilchrist is lecturer in the Rhetoric Department and co-director of IDEAL.
Tom Keegan is Head of Digital Research & Publishing for the UI Libraries and co-director of IDEAL.
Elise Kerns is an undergraduate student, majoring in English with a minor in Philosophy.
